How to Set Up an App Blocker for Studying
To use an app blocker for studying, choose one study task, select the apps that interrupt it, and set a session duration. Keep your study tools available, grant the permissions your blocker needs, and check that the block works before relying on it for a longer session.
Start with the task and the interruption
Write down a concrete stopping point, such as solving five practice questions or outlining one essay section. Then identify what usually interrupts that task. A social feed may be a distraction, while the browser containing your course notes may be essential.
Avoid blocking every app simply to make the setup feel stricter. Keep the tools and communication you need available. If you require your phone for two-factor authentication or class materials, check those paths before starting.
Set up on iPhone
Furmily uses Apple Screen Time controls for app protection. Follow the in-app authorization prompts, choose the apps or categories you want protected, and start a session. Protection requires your permission on a compatible Apple device.
Test your selection with a short session. If protection does not behave as expected, review Screen Time or Family Controls access and your selection. Consult Support for current setup details. Do not assume a session timer alone blocks apps.
Set up on Android
Follow the Furmily setup prompts for Usage Access, display-over-other-apps, and Accessibility where requested. Permission labels and availability can vary by phone. Read the explanation for each permission before enabling it.
Select the distracting apps, start a short session, and try opening one of your selections. If blocking is not working, check the requested permissions and app selection rather than relying only on the timer display.
Choose a session you can complete
Twenty-five minutes is one possible starting point. A shorter session can fit a small task or make it easier to begin. Choose based on what you are studying and the time available rather than treating one duration as a requirement.
When the session ends, review the task and any interruptions. If you needed a blocked tool, revise the selection. If the task was too broad, choose a smaller stopping point for the next session.
Use the reward as a return point
Furmily combines the timer and app blocker with a virtual companion. Finishing sessions earns food you can use to care for your pet. You can start directly in the app; an NFC tag is optional.
Keep your study outcome separate from the timer result. A completed session records time, while checking your notes or practice answers tells you what you learned.
